प्रवक्ता · English edition 23 October 2026 · Hindi original 30 January 2019 · 6 min read
With the Modi government coming to power at the centre in 2014, the second election is now approaching. Therefore, evaluation of the government's work has begun everywhere, which is also necessary in a robust democracy so that development and all essential facilities reach the public and they can also choose a benevolent government for themselves. In this context, a discussion of some of the major works and policies undertaken by the central government in recent years is necessary; let us look at those 13 achievements that have taken place in 5 years.
1. Effective Curb on Corruption
The defining feature of the government under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi is that its ministers have remained free from corruption. In contrast to the previous government, which was mired in allegations of the 2G scam, coal scam, Commonwealth scam, chopper scam, and Adarsh scam, very few cases of corruption have emerged under the Modi government. However, some state governments faced allegations of scams.
2. Pradhan Mantri Jan-Dhan Yojana
Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced the Jan-Dhan Yojana on the occasion of Independence Day in the year 2014. The objective of this scheme is to connect every citizen of the country with banking facilities, and 31.31 crore people have benefited under this scheme. Studies say that in the economic sphere, this is the world's largest scheme. It also set a Guinness World Record for opening the highest number of bank accounts—1,80,96,130—in a single week.
3. G.S.T.
GST means one nation, one tax. Under this new tax system, different taxes do not have to be paid on every commodity, and a single tax system has been implemented across the entire country. After the liberalization of the economy in 1991, this is the biggest step regarding reform in the financial sector, which previous governments had been attempting to implement. The Modi government launched the Goods and Services Tax (GST) at midnight in a special session of Parliament in the Central Hall of Parliament on July 1, 2017. In the initial phase, problems arose in this system, but gradually, through improvements based on feedback, it has become a publicly accepted system.
4. Ujjwala Yojana-
This scheme proved to be a boon for those families living in rural areas who did not have gas connections and had to face many difficulties in cooking food. Through this scheme, LPG connections were delivered to those families and rural women were also empowered. Under this scheme, BPL (Below Poverty Line) ration card holders living in rural areas are given free cylinders. According to government data, 3 crore families are beneficiaries of this.
5. Digitization—A Crucial Step-
The Modi government has placed considerable emphasis on digitization over the past four years. Digitization has now been promoted from the banking sector to other government operations, providing significant relief to people. This also includes the Modi government's BHIM app, which makes digital payments easy. Through this app, money can be transferred directly to bank accounts. Digitization has also greatly reduced fraud and corruption because manipulation in online work is difficult. One example of this is that those who used fake documents to claim bogus scholarships and allowances have been weeded out.
6. Mudra Yojana-
The Pradhan Mantri Mudra Yojana (PMMY) is a scheme launched to provide loans of up to 10 lakh to non-corporate, non-farm micro and small enterprises. These loans are classified under PMMY and have been disbursed by commercial banks, RRBs (Regional Rural Banks), small finance banks, cooperative banks, MFIs (Microfinance Institutions), and NBFCs (Non-Banking Financial Companies). Applicants can take loans from these institutions. According to government data, as of March 23, 2018, a total of 4,53,51,509 loans amounting to a total of 2,28,144.72 crore rupees have been sanctioned. Under the scheme, a total of 2,20,596.05 crore rupees has been disbursed. Let us tell you that this scheme was launched on April 8, 2015.
7. Swachh Bharat Abhiyan-
Prime Minister Narendra Modi initiated this from the very first year of his tenure, and it has also met with success. Under this scheme, special works for cleanliness have been undertaken across the entire country, which include everything from toilet construction to waste management. Very positive results of the sanitation system have begun to appear nationwide.
8. Pahal Yojana
A decision was made to deposit subsidies directly into bank accounts in the form of Direct Benefit Transfers. This has eliminated the scope for leakage and any manipulation. Under the Pahal Yojana, LPG subsidies are deposited directly into bank accounts, an achievement also recorded in the Guinness Book of World Records. Under this scheme, more than 14.62 crore people are receiving direct cash subsidies. This scheme also helped identify and close about 3.34 crore fake or dormant accounts, saving thousands of crores of rupees.
9. Transparency
Several steps were also taken under the Modi government to ensure transparency, including transparent auctioning of coal blocks, online applications for environmental clearances, and the introduction of online systems for multiple tenders. At the same time, transparency was brought to facilities such as subsidies.
10. Skill Development
The Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana is run by the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship. The objective of this scheme is to provide industry-relevant training to the country's youth to help them secure employment. The government itself pays the training fees for this. Through this scheme, the government provides skill training to less-educated youth or those who have dropped out of school in the 10th or 12th grades. The government has set a target of providing skill training to 1 crore youth by 2020.
11. Make in India
The Modi government launched the Make in India initiative with the objective of boosting India's manufacturing sector. Under this, new technology and modernization are promoted along with capital goods. An allocation of 930 crore rupees has been made for this scheme.
12. Triple Talaq and Hajj Pilgrimage
Triple talaq has seen a historic step taken by the Modi government, which had been opposed for a long time. After multiple amendment motions were rejected in the Lok Sabha, the government accomplished the vital task of passing the 'Muslim Women (Protection of Rights on Marriage) Bill'. At the same time, the government ended the subsidy given on the Hajj pilgrimage starting this very year, meaning that from 2018 onwards, those going for Hajj must bear the entire expense themselves.
13. Atmosphere of Fear Among Terrorists and Traitors
Ever since the Modi government came to power, bad days have arrived for traitors; terrorists are no longer being engaged in talks but are being answered in the language of encounters. Pakistan had to bear the consequences of ceasefire violations by facing surgical strikes. Above all, an atmosphere of fear prevails among terrorists and traitors, which is soothing to the heart. The result of this is that in the past five years, except for Kashmir, not a single terrorist attack has taken place anywhere else in the country.
