A ₹3500-crore system integration project will equip the Indian Navy with a digital communication network on par with the most modern naval forces globally.

Sterlite Tech , a global technology leader in web-scale digital networks, has received an Advance Purchase Order of ₹3500 crore for the design, build, and management of the Indian Navy’s communication network. This will endow the Indian Navy with digital defence superiority on par with the finest naval forces across the globe.

This is the first time an integrated naval communications network of such massive scale is being built in India. The Navy’s communication network will be a smarter network infrastructure equipped with enhanced throughput, high-grade security services, and seamless network management capabilities. Under this contract, Sterlite Tech, leveraging its system integration capabilities, will design, build, and manage the communication network for over a decade.

Dr Anand Agarwal, CEO, Sterlite Tech, stated in this regard, "It is a matter of pride for us to have the opportunity to play a role in strengthening India's defence capabilities through high-grade, comprehensive, future-ready networks." He further remarked, "Our recent experience in building an intrusion-proof communication network for the Indian Army in Jammu and Kashmir will serve us well during the development of the Navy’s communication network. With our unique capabilities spanning from software to silicon, we are fully primed to deliver this end-to-end strategic network for the Indian Navy."

Regarding the project's features, KS Rao, COO and MD (Telecom Products and Services), Sterlite Tech, said, "It is a privilege for us to work for Indian defence and to build an integrated communication network of such vast scale. As the Master Systems Integrator, we will lead the planning and design of a converged MPLS infrastructure over a two-layer centrally managed IP backbone. This will provide the Indian Navy with a secure and reliable digital highway for administrative and defence operations."

Unmatched in its scope and scale, this project entails the creation of a high-capacity IP-MPLS (Internet Protocol-Multiprotocol Label Switching) network. Upon completion, it will link multiple Indian Navy sites and Indian-administered islands.
